YOUNG DRIVER INTERVIEW

with Andrea Rosso

Andrea Rosso is a 17-year-old racing driver from Cirié, Turin in Italy. He raced with Cram Motorsport in Italian F4 last year and won three races with them. I had the chance to chat with him.

youngdriversmonthly:

Hi Andrea! How are you doing today?

Andrea Rosso:

Hello, I’m very well thank you.

-

YDM:

When did you start karting? And what was your favorite moment in your karting career?

AR:

I started karting very young, at the age of 4. The best moment in my karting career was for sure the victory of the WSK super master series in 2017. A success resulting from years of hard work!

-

YDM:

When and where did you start racing single seaters?

AR:

I started racing in single seaters last year. My first race was in Vallelunga in occasion of the first round of the Italian championship but we could not afford the entire season so I did just 4 races.

-

YDM:

You‘ve won three races with Cram Motorsport in this year’s Italian F4. Are you happy with your performance this year?

AR:

Yes, I’m really proud of what we achieved in the first half of the season. Of course there’s some regret for how the last two races went but the most important thing is that I always gave my best and let me say that no-one would have bet on my wins and podiums;)

-

YDM:

Where did you get your nickname „Mr. Red“ from?

AR:

The nickname “Mr. Red” comes from the translation of my surname “Rosso” into English “Red”. It’s my dad that gave me this nickname and I decided to maintain it through my career because I believe it’s a mark that sets me apart from the others!

-

YDM:

In 2019 you‘ve won the first FIA Motorsport Games - F4 Cup for Italy. How did it feel to represent your country in this unique event?

AR:

It was an honour for me to represent my country and bring the Italian flag on top of the podium in such a unique event. Unluckily this year the event was cancelled because of the pandemic.

-

YDM:

What is your biggest fear?

AR:

My biggest fear is finishing second because it’s the first of the losers and honestly I hate to loose.

-

YDM:

What are your hobbies aside from racing?

AR:

When I’m not racing I usually dedicate myself to school but I like to spend my free time with my friends playing tennis or skiing in winter.

-

YDM:

Do you have any strange rituals or habits you do before each race?

AR:

Yes. To be honest I’m quite superstitious and I always have the same routine in the racing days. From listening to music, putting on the right glove first, connecting the radio cable into the car and not before, to getting into the car from the same side every time.

-

YDM:

If you could go back in time, would you change anything about the choices you made related to racing?

AR:

Yes I would. I’d change a decision we made back in 2017 but it’s all part of my growth and this way we won’t repeat the same mistake again.

-

YDM:

What are your plans for next season? What do you expect from 2021?

AR:

The plan is obviously to step up from F4 to a higher category. Most likely it will be the new formula regional/alpine championship but I can’t announce anything yet.

-

YDM:

In which racing series would you like to end up some day? What is your goal?

AR:

As most of the drivers my goal is to reach F1. I hear many saying that nowadays it’s nearly impossible but I strongly believe that if you work hard everyday for your dream, it might come true one day!

-

YDM:

How can fans follow your racing career?

AR:

They can follow me on my Instagram account which will be the most active also in terms of “normal” living. Then I have a Facebook account and soon I’ll open also a Twitter account. I’m also planning to renew my personal internet site!
